Alexis 'Alex' Carter was raised in the area of Ocala Florida, where she would often spend time with her friends going to the local ice cream shop, seeing the newest movies, or driving out to the beaches, where she enjoyed soaking up the sun whether it be on the beach or out on her board surfing the biggest waves she could find. When she had graduated from high school, she decided to join the Federation Space Forces to fight for her planet in the Unification Wars. She has always been a driven soul and was always thought of by her peers and teachers as wise beyond her years.

During her time in school and the academy she would outsmart and out maneuver her opponent. She had a penchant for thinking outside the box, and even bending the rules to ensure she had the upper hand in any situation. After 2 short years in the academy she was stationed as a full-fledged Lieutenant on board the Federation Space Carrier Yorktown. However, after the Battle of Titan, one of the bloodiest battles in all of the Unification Wars, the Yorktown took significant damage and was ordered decommissioned due to the damage being too extensive. There were only a handful of survivors from the carrier and most of them requested early discharge due to the trauma of the loss. Alex on the other hand, whose actions during the battle ensured the survival of 1,100 men and women on the Yorktown, requested to be transferred to the FFG Detroit.

The Detroit had served a major role in the Battle of Titan. The frigate, due to her size and speed was able to perform a series of very risky maneuvers which placed her between the Yorktown and the enemy flagship. This speed and agility combined with the armament, provided the turning point in the battle. The Detroit was able to take out the enemy Flagship while protecting the escape pods from the Yorktown. This maneuver and boldness resounded with Lt. Carter and she vowed that if she survived the battle, she would do everything she could to serve under a commander who was as brave and fearless as the Detroit's Commander.

After the Battle of Titan, Alex fought alongside the Captain of the Detroit, William Collins. His fearlessness combined with her strategic genius proved to be a winning combination. By the end of the wars, the Detroit had more enemy kills and successful rescue missions than any other ship in the fleet. With peace and security seemingly achieved, life was looking up for the new Commander. That is until one fateful day when a distress call came through....
