OVERVIEW:
This model was the first unit of my railroad. It originally came with only the capability to run on DC layouts. I was able to identify the type of decoder needed and converted it to DCC.
The GP40 was designed for freight hauling. It was one of the most popular and most successful locomotives produced. These units were one of the last 4 axle units manufactured as the 6 axle units were just coming onto the scene. The 6 axle units would allow for greater traction and more evenly distributed weight on the rails. Many of the GP40's still remain in service to this day.
